Following the official close of parliamentary nominations on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 5 p.m., the NDC Northern Regional Office reportedly stated that fifty-nine (59) individuals, including all nine incumbent MPs, had filed  nominations to contest the parliamentary primaries in their respective constituencies. 

All eighteen (18) constituencies in the Northern Region have submitted nominations.

Interestingly, three incumbent Members of Parliament, if they pass the vetting process, which is set to take place on Monday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 5, 2023, will almost certainly run unopposed in the primaries. These members are Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Tamale North MP Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, and Kpandai MP Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

The Party’s Regional Executive Committee applauded all Constituency Executives, Members of Constituency Elections Directorates, and Parliamentary Candidate hopefuls for their decorous campaigns thus far.

The Regional Executive Committee further, urged them all to maintain their positive attitude in the coming days.

Zaa News obtained the following breakdown of parliamentary candidates from all eighteen constituencies’ nominations: Mion and Sagnarigu both had six candidates. Nanton, Kumbungu, and Gusheigu each had five candidates. Karaga, Savelugu, and Zabzugu each had four parliamentary aspirants, while Yendi and Wulensi both had three. Saboba, Tatale, Bimbila, Tolon, and Tamale South each received two nominations each for the Regional Elections Directorate
