Angry youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savelugu constituency want the head of Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Abdulai Alhassan Red on a platter; they have subsequently called on the President, Mr.John Dramani,  to dismiss the chief executive.

Mr. Alhassan’s sin? He is alleged to have engineered the interdiction of the northern regional accountant of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Mr. Alhassan Iddrisu Bunglung, who contested the last NDC primaries.

Demonstrating through some streets in Savelugu, and carrying placards some of which read, “Reinstate Mr. Iddrisu Bunglung or forget Savelugu seat,”  “Mahama must do something, Savelugu is zero in development,” and “No Iddrisu Bunglung, No votes,” the young men demanded a withdrawal of the interdiction letter and the immediate reinstatement of Mr. Bunglung.

Addressing the demonstrators, Mr. Mohammed Fuseini Olu, spokesperson for the youth group, claimed the electoral process was rigged to prevent the obvious and popular choice, Mr. Bunglung from declaring victory. Instead, Mr. Mr. Alhassan was declared the winner and went on to become the party’s candidate for the 2016 elections. This move, Mr. Olu noted, has eroded support for the party at the grass-root level.

“As a matter of urgency, it is our wish to take this opportunity to inform you that should efforts not be made to withdraw the letter of interdiction served on the said aspirant and reinstate him without further delay, the NDC will have itself to blame come elections 2016,” Mr. Olu warned.

According to the youth, the party is facing serious problems and instead of the leadership exerting efforts to find lasting solutions, they are interested in people losing their jobs for reasons best known to them.

The youth refused to present their petition to the Northern Regional Minister who they said was billed to receive it at the coordinating council but wanted to receive it at Savelugu on his way to Walewale. They informed the minister that the petition will be brought to his office to be forwarded to the President.

But the MCE in an interview with Zaa News  dismissed accusations of having influenced Mr. Bunglung’s interdiction. He explained that Mr. Bunglung is a regional accountant and not a municipal accountant, thus, he Mr. Alhassan Red has no powers to influence any decision concerning Mr. Bunglung. The MCE further explained that like other public servants, the NCCE doesn’t engage in partisan politics.image
