Gov’t to award projects to traditional areas in the North that embrace peace
The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) is considering a quarterly award for traditional areas with total peace in the region.
According to the RCC, the award will come in the form of a deliberate government project for any traditional area that will ensure that people eschew violence and conflicts for the period under review.
Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, who disclosed this to Zaa News said his outfit has begun talks with some development partners for further deliberation and piloting.
Mr Saeed explained that following some successes chalked in the implementation of the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) inter-district league table in fighting open defecation free (ODF ) which rates MMDAs performance, it will be prudent to replicate such a laudable idea in peace building in the region.
The initiative when materialized, the minister noted, will reduce pressure on the regional Security Council, district and municipal security committees and the national security ministry.
He believes the proposed peace league table will bring a healthy competition among paramount chiefs in the region.
Mr Saeed who has been touted as peace loving minister stated that even though the region is currently peaceful, there is the need for initiatives to be implemented and sustained for speedy development.
