30-year-old strap dealer, Abdul Gafaru Amadu was arrested by the Tamale Police for stabbing Mugtaru Nurudeen, 25, to death in Bulpela, a suburb of Tamale in the northern region.

Authorities said Amadu went to a popular “wee base” in the neighborhood called “Center” when a misunderstanding ensued between him and and the deceased, resulting in a fight. Amadu then threatened to stab the deceased if he came closer to him,  an eye witness told Zaa News.

According to the eye witness, so intense was the fight that the two men could not be separated. It was at this point that, Amadu reportedly grabbed a knife at the scene and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest causing him to bleed severely.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to Zaa News said a complainant, Abdul Wahab Alhhasan, reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the suspect. He indicated that the deceased was then rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital but died on arrival.

A group of young men in the area upon hearing that Mugtaru had died went and picked up the suspect from his hideout in the area and subjected him to severe beatings before handing him over to police.

The suspect was subsequently admitted at the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment for his injuries and was later discharged. He has since been charged with murder and will be arraigned before court.
