A coalition of Sagnarigu District Communities has petition government over the nomination of the Alhaji Ibrahim Andani for the District Chief Executive position for Sagnarigu district.
The coalition which is opposing the DCE nominee petitioned the government through the northern regional coordinating council and the regional NDC party secretariat which was received by the deputy regional minister, San Nasamu Asabigi and the NDC regional secretary, Alhaji Umar Yussif Alhassan.
The coalition in their petition gave three days ultimatum to government addressed their concerns or as they put it they will embark on demonstration to press home their demands.
The Secretary of the coalition Mohammed Salifu who read the petition said the nominee is not an electorate of Sagnarigu and that he is an office holder of the NDC in the Tamale Central constituency which was not part of the Sagnarigu district.
The Regional Secretary of the NDC, Alhaji Umar Yussif Alhassan who received the petition on behalf of the party assured the aggrieved communities that the party will look into their concerns.
He however pleaded with the aggrieved communities’ days’ ultimatum saying is too short a period for the party and urged them to exercise restraint whiles the leadership look into the matter.
Meanwhile some concern members in four communities in the district have also wadded into the controversy surrounding the nomination of Alhaji Ibrahim Andani as the District Chief Executive for the area.
The concern members drawn from Dimali, Dunshegu, Kpalsi and Ngarang all from the district say they are not entirely against the nominee, but he is not familiar with the people and the developmental challenges facing the district.
The four communities say they prefer one Sualihu Alabira, a failed parliamentary candidate of the Sangarigu North constituency some few months ago.
The chairman of Dimali development committee, Iddrisu Neidow who led some of the concerned members to the studios of Zaa claimed Mr Alabira would be the best person to help develop the new district.
According to them, communities in the new Sagnarigu district lack access roads and other social amenities and expressed the hope that Mr. Alabira has the experience to speed up development in the area when given the nod.
The NDC secretary of Dunshegu, Alabira Mumuni appealed to the leadership of the NDC to intervene to find a lasting solution to the problem before it affects the party fortunes in the upcoming elections.
He said the communities want a native and someone who can facilitate the development of the area. It is recalled that, on 20th of September 2012, the President John Dramani Mahama nominated Alhaji Ibrahim Andani for the district chief executive position.
