The paramount Chief of Savelugu traditional area, Yoo Naa Abukari Mahama the 7th has donated items worth thousands of Ghana cedsi to the Savelugu government hospital, the Savelugu Senior High School and the Savelugu School for the Deaf.
The donated items include detergents, disinfectants, toiletries, cooking oil, tubers of yam and pampers, footballs and learning materials. Yoo Naa Mahama made the donation when he toured some institutions under his jurisdiction to familiarise himself with workers and challenges facing them.
This is the first visit by the Yoo Naa Mahama who was enskinned as the paramount Chief of the Savelugu traditional area a few months ago this year.
Presenting the items to the hospital, Yoo Naa Mahama called on philanthropists and non-governmental organizations to assist communities under his jurisdiction get the basic social amenities such as access to roads, potable drinking water and business opportunities for women and the youth in the area.
The Chief said, he knows some patients at the hospital cannot afford certain things due to financial constraints and expressed the hope that with the little he has provided, would help the hospital take care of them. Yoo Naa Mahama appealed to doctors and nurses at the hospital to work hard under the little resources at their disposal to save lives of his people.
The medical superintendent of the Savelugu Hospital, Dr S.Y Bosomtwe thanked the Chief for his kind gesture and concern for health workers and patients at the hospital, since his enskinment as a chief for Savelugu.
Dr Bosomtwe told the Yoo Naa that the hospital is challenged with many deficiencies both human resources and medical equipment. Dr Bosometwe said his outfit could not run the hospital’s normal activities because of the challenges confronting them and expressed the hope that with the chief’s concern, these challenges will receive serious attention by stakeholders in the health sector.
The Municipal education directorate of the area also commended the paramount Chief of Savelugu traditional, Yoo-Naa Abukari Mahama for his concern and commitment to improving quality education in the district.
The directorate says this is their first time witnessing such a visit of a traditional ruler and assured that they will do all they can to improve the quality of education in the Savelugu municipal area.
The Second Cycle Coordinator at GES office in the Savelugu municipality, Idrisu Yakubu made the commendation on behalf of the education director when the chief donated books, tubers of yam and footballs to Savelugu secondary School and Savelugu School for the deaf.
At the school for the deaf and dumb, Yoo-Naa said even though the pupils cannot speak and hear they can become responsible future leaders. Yoo-Naa Mahama appealed to government and NGOs to construct fence walls for both Savelugu senior high and the school for the deaf. The chief said pupils at the school for the deaf’s lives have been exposed to a lot of dangers due to its proximity to the Tamale- Bolgatanga highway. Yoo-Naa Mahama said even though government is committed in education, schools in the Savelugu traditional area need more support by government and non-governmental organizations. The Assistant Headmistress of Savelugu school for the deaf, Amenyeku Akuvi expressed their delight about the chief and his elders concern of the under privileged in the society.]]>
