Farmers will benefit from fertilizer subsidy –President Mahama assures

Government has assured farmers that, they will benefit from fertilizer subsidy it introduced to help improve food production.

Farmers’ government said will enjoy the subsidy during the 2015 farming season because almost all outstanding issues with fertilizer supply companies have been settled. The subsidy program will be revived before the next agriculture season, it assured.

The smuggling of the fertilizer to the neighboring countries which affected the program will also be a thing of the past, government has said.

The fertilizer subsidy program government said is undergoing restructuring and stringent measures are being put in place to prevent people from diverting the fertilizer for their own benefits to the detriment of the farmers. 

President John Dramani Mahama who announced this in Yendi during the 2015 Damba celebration urged farmers to bear with government as it takes steps to address the problem confronting agriculture sector.

Touching on the National Sanitation Day, President Mahama asked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country to sit up and enforce sanitation by-laws in their respective areas.On bush fires, in the region, the president also appealed to the people in the northern region to stop bush burning.

President Mahama observed that, bush fire is a bane not only on farmers but also government and called for an end to the practice in the region.
