GIGDEV trained 24 girls on dressmaking

Four underprivileged girls in Tolon under the Girls Growth and Development (GIGDEV) Project in the northern region have graduated as Dressmakers.

The beneficiaries underwent a twenty-four month training course in the trade area. The Project apart from Tamale runs in Savelugu, Tolon, Bognayili, and Karega.

Beneficiaries also received Numeric and Literacy Skills during their training period. They have also received intensive Counseling throughout their training course.

Eleven girls in Bognayili and 9 girls in Savelugu under the project graduated. Speaking to Zaa News the Programs Manager, Selina Iddi Abdulai said inadequate of sewing machines and insufficiency of funds to pay facilitators teachers are the major challenges facing the project.

Despite the challenges Madam Selina said the project has trained a lot of women who are responsible in society.

She has appealed to the public to assist in the training and development of in the region by providing them with sewing machines and other facilities. Upon interacting with some of the graduates they expressed gratitude to the management of GIGDEV for bringing light into their lives.

GIGDEV was established in 1998 by a retired midwife, Madam Stella Nitori with the aim of transforming vulnerable girls into respectable women in future and to also train them acquire capacity building in the various vocational training skills.
