Nasia Chief warns chain-saw operators

The Mozurana-Nasia, Chief Dan N. Abdulai and the elders in Nasia, a farming community in the Walewale constituency of the West Mamprusi District in the Northern Region have resolve to deal with anyone found engaging in illegal chain-saw activities in the area.

The elders took the decision after a torrential rain hit the area displacing over one thousand two hundred people residing in seventy eight houses in Nasia.

Schools and properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed by the rainstorm which occurred last Sunday at about 9 pm.

The disaster has been described as the worst in the community compare to the 2010 one. Some of the victims who could control their emotions broke into tears considering danger cause to their properties.

The Nasia rainstorm disaster brings to third in the northern region so far this year after Sang in the Mion district and the Nanumba North district in Bimbilla.  

Reopening of school is likely to be affected in the only basic school in Nasia, the Nasia D/A primary which has been ripped off completely. The recently established missionary senior high school, ST. Paul Senior High School also has its dormitories rip off.

This compel to the Mozurana of Nasia and his elders to take a firm decision to deal with any illegal chain-saw operators in the area. Speaking to Zaa News, the Mozurana said the deforestation in the area contributed significantly to the perennial rainstorm disaster in the community. 

Meanwhile, electricity supply has been cut off by the Volta River Authorities in Nasia up to Janga community since Sunday to avert further disaster.
