NYEP Beneficiaries Angry Over Allowances Delay

0

Some beneficiaries of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Northern Region have threatened to vote against the ruling National Democratic Congress in 2012 elections over difficulties in accessing their allowances.
They said even though they have complained to the NYEP authorities to intervene, they have not seen any changes.
Speaking to ZAA radio at the premises of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) at Aboabu, in Tamale where beneficiaries were gathered to take their allowances, they also complained that the bank’s method of payment is time consuming and poor, and said the bank had only one cashier who attended to over a thousand beneficiaries.
They also alleged that NYEP officials deduct their monies without explaining what the deductions are meant for. Management of the Aboabu branch of ADB has however declined to comment on the matter.
NYEP officials have explained that the deductions were kept in a provident fund and beneficiaries who completed the program shall access their contributions, likening it to the social security contributions for public sector workers.
They explained that they have no hand in the delay of allowances at the bank, adding their duty was to lodge the monies at the bank which they do always. ]]>
