tigo supports traders in Tamale Central Market

The Progressive Traders Association (PTA) in Tamale in collaboration the Tamale metropolitan Assembly has presented over 79 tigo branded umbrellas to market women in the Tamale Central Market (TCM) who were affected by the recent decongestion exercise by the assembly.

The umbrellas according to PTA will serve as a relief to the affected traders as a shelter for them to display their wares in the market.  The traders will take off the umbrellas after day’s sales.

 The association as part of their responsibilities requested some support from the Tamale metropolitan assembly to help the traders with some shelter after it has removed unauthorized verandas and structures in the TCM.

The Secretary to the Progressive Traders Association in Tamale Thomas Ade said the association after the decongestion carried by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly took it upon themselves to get shelter for its members and wrote to all telecommunication networks in Ghana but so far only tigo responded to their request.

The PTA Mr Ade said is also considering seeking financial support from financial institutions operating in Tamale to boost its member’s strength.

The Northern Regional Manager of tigo, the providers of the umbrellas, Louis Atoya Atatuba said tigo will continue to liaise with the assembly and PTA to provide the traders with shelter.  

According to him the umbrellas provided was not enough for the traders and that his outfit will make try to provide more to prevent the women from rains and scorching sun.
