Traders in Tamale Old Market Express Optimism about Sales

Traders at the Tamale Central Market have expressed mixed reactions on sales prospects in the coming days as Ramadan ends. Some shop owners are certainly optimistic business will boom in the next two to three days as a result of the Eidul-Fitr celebration.

However, some complain of a slow start of sales compared to last year, adding that, it may not change as expected. But Zaa News’ visit to some textiles and clothing shops indicates that sales have taken off on a good note for the past three days. The shop owners are expectant that sales will surely grow as many will need new clothing to celebrate the upcoming Islamic feast.

Commenting on pricing, shoppers like Ramatu Bukari is of the view that price increments would greatly affect her purchasing power for the coming celebration.

The holy month of Fasting (Ramadan) is a blessed Islamic lunar month covering either thirty or twenty-nine days full of spiritual exercises. The Eidul-Fitr is then celebrated the following day symbolizing “Muslims quenching their thirst” thereafter. This year’s Eidul-Fitr (Festival) is expected to fall on either Friday, July 17, 2015 or Saturday, July 18, 2015.
