The Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Dr Ken Sagoe says work on renovation of the old building project is over 90 percent complete.
The renovation project which started some two years ago to refurbish the Achanpong regime building is almost on the advance completion stages.
Prof. John Evans Atta Mills on the 20th of April 2010 cut sod for the 54 Million Euro expansion, Refurbishment and Upgrading, including the supply and installation of Equipment of the hospital. The sod cutting paved way for the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the old tower block which was constructed in 1974.
The four –storey facility is housing the Accident and Emergency Department, surgical suites (theatres), Maternity, Intensive Care Unit, Neo-natal Intensive Care, Radiology and ICT Scan among others.
Authorities at TTH quickly moved patients to the new edifice ward ’’E’’ after it was commissioned by the then health Minister Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin to enable contractors to work on the old building which started developing cracks.
The new edifice which is an ultra modern facility has been providing services to residents in Tamale and the northern region as a whole.
Since then, the hospital has been characterized by a mix of construction workers and health care personnel crisscrossing each other on daily bases to carry out their duties.
For some workers at TTH, it is exciting working in the new edifice because of its look and facilities.
Speaking to Zaa News, the TTH CEO Dr Ken Sagoe said by middle to the end of June 2013, the hospital authorities expect the government to commission the refurbished building to enable them to start operating in various units.
