The taxi with registration number GR 8412-13 was heading towards Kanveli area when it hit at the back of another cab with registration number 3407-13 parked in front of Tamale office of Ministry of Food and Agriculture to pick a passenger.
Both cars were heading towards one direction when the incident occurred at about 2:30pm local time Tuesday along Tamale-Bolgatanga highway.
The driver of the car in the gutter and a lady occupant sustained serious injury and were rushed to the hospital.
The cause of the crush was not readily known, but eye witnesses suspect the driver of the 8412-13 was either making a phone call while driving which is against Ghana’s traffic regulations or his mind was not on the road.
Community police present not to control traffic
An eye witness told Zaa News he was shocked at the behaviour of the community police popularly called ‘Zoom police’ at the scene.
According to him, while bystanders were struggling to get the taxi out of the gutter, the community police present at the scene whose duty was to help control traffic were rather struggling to get pen from students at the scene to write down numbers of taxis involved in the accident for lotto business.
