The community members also proposed to the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), a strong advocacy team to end open defecation in Ghana, their preparedness to dig for the construction of the toilets which according to them, will significantly improve sanitation situation  in the rural areas.

This came to light when participants at the ongoing training of trainers workshop on sanitation in the northern region visited the communities to learn more about their sanitation issues.

The training organized by CLTS and supported by UNICEF visited Kpaliga, Balinkpeng, Kpaachi, Kpaliga Nyoring, Song, Yugu yili, Namdu kurugu, and Namdu Gbulahigu.

Organizers divided participants into groups on Friday morning and went to the communities to learn about their sanitation living conditions.  At kpaliga community, trainers met with the chief and his elders as well as women and children.

Issah Fawziyya who is covering the training of trainers reported that the team was in the communities with the main objective of the workshop which was sanitation in the northern region with focus on open defecation.

The  communities through self analysis realized that they needed to take  a step into improving their sanitation. Both elders and children came out with ideas on what kind of low cost toilet to construct.
