The Northern region farmers League, a coalition of agricultural organisations in the northern region are threatening to embark on a demonstration over what they describe as a deliberate attempt by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Abisah Seidu, to collapse agriculture in the region.
The farmers League says the ministry’s failure to heed to their call to reverse the transfer of the northern regional Director of Agric Mr. Joseph Faalong is a clear demonstration of his intention to collapse agriculture in the area. Addressing a news conference in Tamale, the chairman of the farmers’ Coalition, Alhaji Iddrisu Kpenaa said, the coalition will adopt all legitimate means to fight for the interest of northern farmers to ensure food security in the country.
They however warned the ministry to reverse the transfer of Mr. Faalong to enable him continue his agric initiatives to improve on farming activities.
The farmers who also expressed worry over the high cost of fertilizers, appeal to the government to speed up the process to subsidize fertilizer to enable farmers purchase it to boast food production.
The farmers say though the government has shown some commitment   to cushion farmers to produce more food to feed the nation, its continued delay in subsidizing fertilizer will adversely affect food production in the country.
