The 1980 year group of the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO) has challenged old students to assist tackle the numerous problems confronting the school.
The 1980 TAMASCO group were overwhelmed and taken aback when their Alma Mata’s problems were laid to them by the Headmaster, Alhaji T.A Mahama on their visit to commission a project.
The old students could not understand why their Alma mata will be bedeviled with so many problems having tolls on the school performance.
Top among problems in TAMASCO are lighting system, inadequate laboratory equipment, fence wall among others.
In recognition of what TAMASCO put in them in preparing their future, the 1980 year group put together a total of one hundred and seventy thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢170,000) as their widow’s might to repair faulty street lights and also install solar lamps in the school.
The old folks established contacts through WhatsApp platform after losing contacts for decades and some of them are now civil engineers, chartered accountants, Major Generals in Ghana and in US army, academicians as well as directors at the various departments and agencies serving the world in different capacities.
The 1980 year group believes, with adequate lighting system, the students will be in a better position to learn in a secure environment.
Professor Mohammed Salifu who led the 1980 year group of the TAMASCO, said the lighting system support project was to encourage other year groups to make the school environment conducive for the students.
Professor Salifu urged the students to be discipline if they really want to be good future leaders.
Professor Mohammed Salifu who is Executive Secretary of National Council for Tertiary Education entreated the current students to cut off life styles that affect their studies and concentrate on their books.
The Headmaster of TAMASCO, Alhaji T.A Mahama described the support as one of the major support from a particular year group from the school. He expressed hope that the lights will improve upon supervision and learning.
He the told students that their colleagues in the south support their alma mata to gain the recognitions that they had and TAMASCO will gain same if the support base increases.
Meanwhile, the school, the premier secondary school in Northern Region, will climax its 65th anniversary in June this year.
