Government provides relief items to victims of NOBISCO fire incident

The Sagnarigu District assembly, through the efforts of the NDC parliamentary candidate, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhiyini has presented relief items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to authorities of the Northern School of Business ( NOBIISCO).

The items included 50 pieces of blankets, 50 buckets, 50 mosquito nets, 50 mattrasses, 100 branded exercise books and 20 packets of roofing sheets.

Other items included 10 packets of roofing nails, two bales of used clothing, 10 cartons of soap and six cartons of sugar.

The joint effort was to lessen the sufferings of victims of the recent fire that destroyed the Dakpema house dormitory. Forty students who were affected had all their belongings completely destroyed.

The fire which occurred at the time President John D. Mahama toured the northern region on his “accounting to the people” tour got his attention and led to the quick release of the relief items.

The District Chief Executive of Sagnarigu, Mr Alhassan Mohammed Sorigudoo who led a government delegation to present the items commended Alhassan Suhiyini for the role he played in fast tracking the release of the items.

The DCE told students at a short ceremony that the NDC government will continue to provide infrastructure for the betterment of their future.

He also appealed to students and management of the school to adhere to fire safety measures from the district fire officer to prevent further incidents.

Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini told the students that, the president, Mr John Dramani Mahama is passionate about the development of the northern region and is very concerned about issues affecting residents.

He said he was touched with by the plight of the students and drew the president’s attention to it who then instructed him to work hard with National Disaster Management Organization for the relief items.

“The president is from here and knows that when he retired he will come back, so he is much concerned about you in particular,” Alhaji Suhiyini said.

The head teacher of NOBISCO, Mr Nuhu Inusah commended government for the support.

The hilarious head teacher told the gathering that he didn’t initially believed what Alhaji Suhiyini told him on phone about the items and considered it as one of the political talks until the vehicle arrived on campus. He urged him to always keep to his words if he wins the election to become MP for Tamale north.

At Kanveli community, Alhaji Suhiyini presented cooking oil, a bag of rice each and cloths to 46 widows from 10 selected communities in the constituency.

The idea was conceived by the constituency women organizer, Hajia Sharatu after the constituency secretary died living behind his widow and children. The ace Radio Gold’s broadcast journalist promised extending support to more widows once they are identified.

Four farmer based groups also received farm inputs such as fertilizer to boost their yields.
