500 girls in 3 regions of the north to benefit from scholarship

image500 brilliant, but economically disadvantaged girls from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions are to benefit from full scholarships for 2016 from the Manchester Card Foundation program.

MasterCard is a global Toronto-Canada based independent foundation that “advances youth learning and promotes financial inclusion to catalyze prosperity in developing countries.”

Potential beneficiaries are expected to possess leadership potential and commitment and ready to give back to society after the program. Brilliant girls with aggregates six to eighteen are qualified for the program.

The scholarship covers full financial support for fees, uniforms, books and suppliers, transportation, accommodation and a modest allowance.

The scholarship is being facilitated in Ghana by the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), in partnership with some public universities.

The MasterCard Foundation scholars program is aiming to educate an estimated 15,000 young people with a common philosophy of change and ethical leadership to serve as mentors, role models and problems solvers.

Answering questions from journalists from Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions at a media partnership meeting in Tamale, CAMFED’s Director of finance and operations John Asibi-Ali, disclosed that the organization spent a total of fifty thousand Ghana cedis in the area of education, entrepreneurship and leadership development in five operational regions, three regions of the north as well as Central and Greater Accra regions.

The meeting he explained was to offer journalists opportunity to scrutinize the NGO operations during the year under review and also get to know their activities.

Program Officer of Further Education at CAMFED, Christian Zico-Agbebo in an interview with Zaa News urged all qualified girls in the regions to liaise with CAMFED for the opportunity of further their education.

He explained that, the scholarship secretariat of CAMFED apart from the universities also assists qualified students in nursing and teacher training colleges in the country.
