We are working hard to reduce maternal mortality to zero;Gushiegu hospital medical superintendent

The acting medical superintendent of the Gushegu district hospital, Dr Barihama Adam has assured residents in the area of his outfit’s commitment to reduce maternal mortality. Dr Barihama said personnel at the hospital are working hard to ensure that maternal mortality is reduced to zero by 2017.

The hospital he noted recorded seven maternal deaths in 2012, it reduced to one last year and working assiduously to reverse the figure from 7 to zero.

The Gushegu district hospital medical superintendent was speaking at the open day celebration organized by the hospital to highlight some of the challenges, successes and future projections of the facility.

Dr Adam told Zaa News, that the success chalked by the hospital was largely due to measures put in place by management to deal with emergency cases. Among the measures put in place are enough stock at the blood bank for emergency cases during labour as well as a ready theatre with a capable standby team to handle complications.

Dr Adam also attributed their performance to the ultramodern health facility the district is blessed with.

On the challenges, Dr Adam bemoaned residents’ lukewarm attitude towards donating blood to save lives and appealed to them to help the hospital blood bank by voluntary donation.

The medical superintendent also made a passionate appeal to pregnant women in the Gushegu district to always attend antenatal clinic for safe delivery.
