Ras Mubarak wins Kumbungu primaries

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Ras Mubarak has won  the the suspended Kumbungu constituency parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress(NDC). He polled 4,176 votes to beat four other contestants.

His closest contender, Alhaji Yakubu Imoro Kakpagu managed to garner 3,180 votes while Abdallah Ibrahim Baba had 1,288. A lecturer at the University for Development studies, Dr Hamza Adam polled 2,274 votes with Amadu Kahad polling 2,100 votes.

The constituency has fourteen thousand three hundred one (4,31) registered voters and twenty one (21) polling centres.
Voting started exactly at 7a.m. local time at all polling centers.
The election was suspended over bloated register which captured opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Convention Peoples Party members’ names.

On Friday, some supporters of the four aspirants threatened to boycott Saturday’s primaries over accusations that one candidate has infiltrated the voters’ register with “foreign” names.

Ras Mubarak was accused of infiltrating the voters’ register with 400 names.

Supporters of Abdul-Kahad, Yakubu and Ibrahim took their claims against Ras Mubarak,  to the NDC party office in Tamale for redress.

The executives after careful examination of facts available to them suspended the elections. Auditing of the register by the aggrieved aspirants together with regional executives confirmed that the registered voters in each polling station were in excess.RAS
