The northern regional director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani has challenged northern youth to be the ambassadors for peace in the region.
According to Alhaji Saani, a country can only develop when there is peace and unity among citizens hence the need for them and every individual to preach peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.
Alhaji Saani made the call at the 20the anniversary celebration of Suhuyini Youth Association (SYA) in the Tamale on Saturday.
SYA is a youth group in the Tamale North constituency established in 1995. The group is a developmental group with the aim of providing development to the people in the Tamale North constituency.
The ceremony was attended by political party aspirants, various youth groups as well as chiefs. Addressing participants, Alhaji Saani said it is peace that can allow people to go about their businesses and it is peace that can even allow people to worship, “if there is no peace you cannot stand to worship and that is why there is the need for the youth to take the lead in preaching peace,” he said.
Peace, he added, is the only key that can bring about development. On his part the district chief executive (DCE) of the Sagnarigu district, Mr. Alhassan Mohammed Sorigudoo, advised the youth not to allow politicians to use them to foment trouble during, before and after this year’s elections.
The chairman of the association, Mr. Fuseini Alhassan, mentioned that the association has so far undertaken various activities such as blood donation and organizing extra-classes for the youth.
