1000 young women to receive skills training at Tuutingli

One thousand young urban women aged between 15 and 25 in six communities in the Tamale metropolis are to receive skills training from the Northern Sector Action on Awareness Center (NORSAAC).

The beneficiary communities include; Tuutingli, Kpanvo, Dabokpa, Nallun, Bilpella and Kakpagyili. The two and a half years training is expected to empower and enhance the beneficiary young women   to be economical independent to enable them to live in more dignified lives in their various communities.

 The project titled; Young Urban Women Program (YUWP) was in partnership with Action Aid Ghana under the auspices of the Norwegian Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Explaining the objective of the project to the media at the sod cutting ceremony for the construction of an ultra modern training center in Tuutingli in the Tamale metropolis, the project coordinator, Kawusada Abukari said the project was to enhance the economic participation of young women.

For many young women in the metropolis who may want to take part in training at Tuutingli will have to wait because the initial number have to be taken care of adequately.

NORSSAC programs coordinator, Hafisah Sey Sumani explained that, the young women were being selected based on grouping in the beneficiary communities.

Explaining the reason why Bilpela is the project focus area, NORSAAC programs coordinator said it was as a result of research findings which revealed that there was an increasing abortion rate in the Bilpela community, hence the need for NORSAAC’s intervention. The Director of NORSAAC, Alhassan Mohammed Awal thanked the Chief of Tuutingli for releasing the land for the project gear at assisting not only people from Tuutingli but also other communities.
