Damango NDC executives calls for unity

The Damongo Constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on party members not to engage in divisive tactics to dent the image of the party and also derail their election fortunes.

The executives say any move to create factions in the constituency could cause the party dearly bearing in mind that the Damango seat was not a safe seat for the NDC and urged supporters to desist from creating division.

They asked NDC faithfuls to be united and close all ranks to ensure resounding victory in 2016 general election. The constituency Secretary, Braima Alhassan made the call when he addressed the first ever constituency meeting organized by the incumbent Member of Parliament Adam Mutawakilu.

Mr Braima told the youth, especially NDC, to support the DCE, the MP and the Northern Regional minister to ensure that all government’s effort in developing the area succeeds.

He also entreated party faithfuls to propagate the developmental projects of president John Dramani Mahama-led administration to the people to appreciate what government is doing. The secretary’s call follows the seemingly division and functionalism creeping into the constituency.

The seeming division is blamed on the backdrop of reports that the regional minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna is eying the Damongo seat. The minister was accused of campaigning even before the party opens nomination which the incumbent MP say is against the party’s constitution.

But the minister vehemently denied the allegation and insisted that he was carrying his duty as regional minister. The secretary said the executives are ready to work with anyone who emerges as parliamentary candidate for the constituency and that the acrimony and bitterness will not help the party.

The West Gonja District Chief Executive, Ali Issifu Bakari emphasized the need for party unity and urged party members to direct their arsenals to rather opposition and not within the same party.

He told party members that he will do his best because DCEs have come and gone and he will not also remain forever but he will ensure that he leaves a good legacy and united people in Damango.

He also lamented about people peddling falsehoods against DECs and made passionate appeal to the people to stop making wild allegations against government appointees saying such behaviors will not help the Gonjaland to develop.

The Damongo DCE was not happy that some people will accuse him of financial malfeasance after the assembly renovated the assembly offices and its hall to befit its status. The DCE who is an accountant by profession after allegations leveled against him decided to post documents covering the renovation of the assembly on facebook and promised to post same documents on the assembly’s notice board for public viewing. ’’I know I’m clean, I have not done anything wrong and documents on the renovation vindicate me,’’ the Damongo DCE stated.
