NPP shock at Aboabu market fire&calls for thorough investigation

The New Patriotic Party – NPP has expressed shock at the level of damage caused by the fire outbreak at some parts of the Aboabo market early this morning and called for a thorough investigation to ascertain the real cause of the fire.

In a statement signed by the northern regional secretary of the party Salifu Sule and copied to Zaa News  described the situation as shocking and called on government to provide assistance to the affectd traders.

Large quantities of foodstuff incluing' maize, soyabeans, rice, and groundnuts in five stalls were burnt in a section of Aboabo market.

There are speculations that the fire could have been caused by some miscreants who are using the market for their nefarious activities when the traders have closed and gone home.

The NPP therefore called on the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to use part of the revenue generated from the market to improve upon its standard.

The Aboabo foodstuff market, according to the NPP requires a serious facelift by providing access routes and security gates to prevent the use of the facility by miscreants. The NPP also observed that the market has not received any rehabilitation for some time now putting the stalls and properties of traders to danger.

In another development, the northern regional chief Imam, sheik Abdul-salam Ahmed has led a powerful delegation of the Muslim community from the central mosque to sympathize with victims of the dawn fire accident.

The chief Imam said prayers for the affected traders and urged them to take heart and consider such misfortune as the work of God. Other members of his delegation include the Mukardam of the Muslim Ummah in Tamale, Alhaji Sibawei Abubakar, Sheik Baba Duwa, sheik Hafiz and some leading members of the central mosque in Tamale.
