Statistics from the northern regional health directorate indicates that, the region is the lowest in the use of contraceptives in the country.
The situation according to the health directorate is worrying not only for the northern region, but also at the national level due to its negative implications.
The major problem associated with low or not using contraceptives according to health authorities are unsafe abortions which contribute to the high maternal mortality rates in the region contributing to increasing poverty among families.
It also leads to poor quality health care and low nutritional status and illiteracy. It is against this background that, stakeholders are mapping up efforts to increase the patronage and practice of family planning among families.
The region is fortunate to have been chosen to launch this year’s National Family Planning week celebration under the theme, “Making Every Pregnancy A celebration: A partnership with traditional and religious leaders’’.
The event, according to the regional health directorate will take place at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Wednesday 26 September 2012.
Among the dignitaries to grace the occasion will be the minister of health, Albert Kingsford Sumani Bagbin and the minister of local government and rural development Sammuel Ofosu Ampofo among others.]]>
