The Northern Regional Executive Committee of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to call the northern regional chairman to order.

According to the committee, the NPP chairman, Mr Daniel Bugre Naabu’s utterances are threatening the security of the region and the intervention of the regional security council is needed to stop the boisterous chairman from further poisoning the atmosphere.

The ruling party therefore urged the the national security to invite Mr Naabu for questioning over his recent comments on posting armed men to police ballot boxes in the region, during the December 7 elections.

The NDC executives described the NPP chairman’s comments as reckless, careless and unfortunate and should not have come from an elderly person like Mr Naabu.

The NDC said it believes the outspoken NPP chairman’s comments may have been hatched at the NPP regional secretariat and the chairman, because of what the NDC termed verbal diarrhea, let the cat out of the bag.

Reacting to the issue at a news conference, the NDC regional secretary, Mr Khalid Abdul Rauf said no justification or denial from any official of the NPP will be accepted and urged the national leadership of the NPP to start condemning such statements.

“The NDC will not be intimidated by anybody, we believe that security agencies are up to the task in region, even when the NPP was in power and most of their private vehicles were converted into armored cars, they couldn’t push us. much less when they are not in power,” he said. “I must also advise the national leadership to remember fact that NPP has been known in both pre-independent and post-independent Ghana as a violent party and therefore they should try to condemn comments such as this.”

He stated that the NDC will not allow the divisions and the rancor in NPP to be visited on the NDC and that they will continue to protect the sanctity of the democracy in Ghana.

He also pointed to the murder of the NPP regional chairman of the Upper East, the chasing of the erstwhile national chairman and general secretary out of the party’s head quarters as evidence that the party lacks discipline.

He also advised supporters and young men in the NPP not to allow themselves to be used to foment trouble during the December 7 general elections and urged the NPP youth to find out from Mr Naabu if his close relatives or sons are part of macho men to cause mayhem.

Mr Rauf urged the teeming supporters of the NDC to disregard the statement and remain resolute and come out in their numbers on December 7 to vote for president Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates.

On the NPP vice presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s accusations that the NDC government has no northerners at heart, the NDC regional secretary challenged Dr Bawumia to tell the people of the region what developmental projects the NPP undertook in the region, during its eight years in office.
