Ambulance on rescue mission catches fire

One ofambulance the ambulances stationed in Tamale for emergency responses on Thursday caught fire while on a rescue mission.

The ambulance, with registration number GV 338-12, caught fire around the Total Fuel station along the Tamale Teaching Hospital road at about 2:00 p.m., officials said.

The ambulance was racing to an accident scene along the Tamale-Yendi road when the incident reportedly occurred.

The driver of the vehicle told Zaa News that on his way to the scene, he tried to slow down and join the highway and when he applied his breaks, smoke suddenly started belching out of the engine of the vehicle.

Before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene, the entire engine and the auto mechanical components of the ambulance had been burnt.
