2 communities burntr; five arrested in renewed ethnic violence in Saboba

Five persons have been arrested in a renewed communal violence between the Konkombas and the Chokosis in the Saboba district of the North Eastern region. Twenty-four (24) cartridges t he police said were retrieved from the Tambo suspects.

Two single barrel guns and 49 cartridges were also retrieved from the suspected arrested at Bonababa.

The renewed violence broke out on Saturday at Nambiri Zongo, Chokosi community and Tombo, a Konkomba community both in the Saboba district. The violence in spite of the police assurances after the arrest escalated again on Monday May 20,2019 with two additional communities burnt.

The violence the police said continue on Sunday when a group of Konkombas went and burnt Koli Village near Nambiri-a chokosi community in the Saboba district. In retaliation, the police said the Chokosi also burnt Namduri village of the Konkombas.

The latest violence occurred two days after the president, Nana  Akufou visited the area and called for an end to the continue violence.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yussif Tanko told that police and military patrol have increased to prevent further escalation of the violence. The suspects, he added are in police custody to assist investigation
