The implementing partners of Empowerment for Life (E4L) Program, Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) have donated Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to the regional coordinating council.
The PPE meant for the regional health Directorate totaling Gh¢ 62,750, 000 was in recognition of the health challenges the outbreak of COVID-19 pose to the people in the region.
This is to help breach what the partners described as a huge resource burden the pandemic puts on the Regional Health Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council and government at large.
The items included 76 litres of hand sanitizer, 100 litres of liquid soap, 1,000 pairs of examination gloves, 350 pieces of surgical masks, 30 pieces of veronica buckets and 12 pieces of towel rolls for health Directorate amounting to (GH¢ 13,150.00).

Acting Executive Director of GDCA, Mr PHILIP A. Gmabi who made presentations explained that their main development strategies have principally been capacity building and advocacy but they cannot remain unconcerned as partners, in a crisis like this, just because service delivery is not a core area of our operation.
The Partners prior to Tuesday donated some Personal Protective Equipment to five MMDAs namely; Savelugu Municipal, Kumbungu, Karaga, Mion, and Saboba Districts.
This is expected to ease the pressure on the Regional Coordinating Council and also complement the efforts of government in the fight against COVID-19.
As part of commpelementoey efforts, GDCA have dedicated all its radio programs (in the form of airtime) in the 5 MMDAs worth (GH¢ 35,640.00)
to COVID-19 education, Mr Philip said.
In addition, the E4L Program Partners have committed an amount of (GH¢ 4,000.00) to support the bi-weekly meetings of the 5 MMDAs COVID-19 response team/committee for May and June.
This, Mr Philip explained was to support the districts COVID-19 response team to meet regularly to address COVID-19 emergency issues and implement their action plans.
The program Partners he added will rely on the expertise of the District Health Directorate, Information Services Department (ISD) and National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in enhancing the awareness creation among the communities and groups within the 5 MMDAs the Program works with.
The Partners have therefore further allocated some resources amounting to Seven Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 7,500.00) to enhance the awareness creation in the districts through ISD and NCCE.
The funds to public institutions Mr Philip said were to be used to support their community sensitization activities on COVID-19 prevention and containment measures.
The Partnership the acting director said has also committed an amount of Nine Thousand, Six Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 9,600.00) to the five Health Directorates for community outreach in their respective MMDAs to sensitize the communities on COVID-19.
The partners have also committed an amount of Five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 5,000.00) to support the bi-weekly meetings of the Regional COVID-19 Response Team, and have further devoted an amount of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 10,000.00) to be donated to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund through the CSOs platform.
In total, GDCA and YEfL-Ghana have therefore committed a total amount of One Hundred and Forty-Seven Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 147, 640.00) of its intervention funds towards the fight against COVID-19.
He reminded residents that COVID-19 was real and pleaded for strict adherence to the safety precautionary measures from both the Government of Ghana and World Health Organisation (WHO) for our own safety.
Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed commended the partners for the huge support and urged others to emulate their examples.
Mr Saeed described the support as timely which will help health professionals to give off their best in the fight against COVID-19.
” Your support is a clear demonstration that we are truly partners in development in progress in our part of the country ”, the minister acknowledged.
