Some delegates of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), in the northern region have rejected claims by defeated presidential hopeful Samia Nkrumah that they were bribed by Ivor Greenstreet in the just ended congress.image

The former CPP national chairperson alleged that delegates were given 500 Ghana cedis each by victorious presidential candidate Greenstreet, who polled 1288 votes to beat Samia who garnered 570 v0tes and two other contenders, Joseph Agyapong who earned 83 votes and Bright Akwetey who managed just 42 votes.

Delegates from the northern region say they voted for Greenstreet for three reasons which they outlined as: Greenstreet being a unifier, respects every member of the party and finally he is the only one who knows all the constituencies in the country and makes himself available to any party member.

The northern regional administrator of the party, Ibrahim Tahir Pumaaya said Mr Greenstreet only gave money to delegates for their food and transport but not to influence them to vote for him.

Mr. Pumaaya who is also the Education Secretary of the Tamale North constituency told Zaa News that the daughter of the party’s founder missed the point when she raised allegations of bribery because delegates voted according to their conscience and Nkrumah’s ideals and nothing else.
