The Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Zabzugu constituency, Mr. Alhassan Umar, popularly known as Abako, has committed twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢20,000) for the construction of a dam for the people at Tindang.

The dam, which is near completion, will as expected, end the water problem facing the community, especially during the dry season. In addition, the dam will also end the hassle and long distances women and children travel each day in search of water.

Mr. Umar embarked on the water project after community members appealed to him for support during his ‘Thank You Tour’ during which he also found out the difficulties they go through in accessing water. The members told Mr. Umar that their pressing need was water because they can no longer continue competing with animals for the essential commodity.

The community contributed seven thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢7,000) out of the ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢10,000) needed to partner with the district assembly for the construction of the dam.

Mr. Umar, touched by the community’s plight, decided to shoulder the total cost of the whole project and urged the community members to channel the 7,000 cedis they contributed to different needs.

Speaking to Zaa News, Mr. Umar assured the people of Zabzugu that when elected he will not be an MP who will only stay in Accra for parliamentary work but will interact with his constituents on a regular basis.

He told Zaa News that his effort was in line with president Mahama’s “changing lives and transforming” agenda. Mr. Umar said the NDC government’s evidence-based campaign is on course and is transcending every part of the country.
